Solid Gold Care Guide

What is Solid Gold?

Solid gold is the purest and most enduring form of gold jewelry. Unlike gold vermeil or gold plated pieces, solid gold does not have a base metal beneath — it is gold throughout. At Beurre d'Or, we offer solid gold pieces in 9k, 14k, and 18k upon request, allowing you to choose the purity that suits your budget and lifestyle.

The higher the karat, the purer the gold — and the richer the colour. Lower karats such as 9k contain a higher proportion of other metals, making them slightly more durable for everyday wear.

How to Care for Your Solid Gold

Solid gold is the most low-maintenance of all precious metals and is highly resistant to tarnishing and corrosion. With minimal care it will last a lifetime and beyond.

Do:

  • Store in a soft pouch or jewelry box when not wearing
  • Clean occasionally with warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft cloth
  • Polish gently with a soft dry cloth to restore shine
  • Wear it as much as you like — solid gold is made for everyday wear

Avoid:

  • Harsh chemicals such as bleach or chlorine which can damage the metal over time
  • Abrasive materials that may scratch the surface
  • Storing pieces together without protection to avoid scratching

What to Expect Over Time

Solid gold does not tarnish or fade. Over time you may notice very minor surface scratches from daily wear — this is completely normal and can be polished out by a professional jeweler if desired. Unlike gold vermeil, solid gold retains its colour and quality indefinitely.
